How Solar Powered Products Can Be Used In Your
Home
An
ever-increasing number of people are discovering
solar power for their homes.
Solar power is being harnessed to heat homes as
well as to operate countless different
appliances, with the best benefits being that
this renewable resource being its economical as
well as environmentally-friendly. There are many
homes that run basically from solar power, with
their utility bills being cut by 50 to 70%.
Once installed, solar power can be used for
heating as well as to produce hot water and
depending on the design of the systems, solar
power can also be used to provide electricity to
the home.
Solar electric panel are the most basic
technology used for solar power. These panels
utilize photon cells to generate small amounts
of electricity. When you combine the collective
electricity produced by all the cells, it is
enough to supply an entire household’s power
requirements.
If this system is connected to a grid, which is
similar to the conventional grid system used in
non-solar powered homes, the system can
interpret the amount of solar power the home has
used, compared to the amount of conventional
electricity. The meter then subtracts the amount
of solar energy used from the amount of total
electricity used, and the remainder is applied
to the utility bill.
Many systems also have the capability of storing
solar energy allowing for this stored or surplus
energy to be used later for heating, lighting,
and for producing hot water. You can also use
solar power to heat your hot tub and swimming
pool.
The main reason many people switch to solar
power is to cut their energy bills. However, do
not expect that the amount of savings will
immediately pay for the installation, as it will
take approximately 10 to 12 years to do this.
The Department of Energy hopes that by the year
2020, solar power will be in use in every home
across the United States, cutting our nations
energy consumption by approximately 70%. Let’s
hope that their dream does come true and make
this Earth a greener place to live.
